BLUNT

PPC + Paid Social

Objectives

BLUNT Umbrellas, an upmarket brolly brand from New Zealand, wanted to establish a strong presence in the UK market, after success in their home territory and Australia. As a relatively unknown brand in the UK, they faced several challenges:

  • Limited brand awareness among UK consumers
  • Need to build market share in a territory with existing and established umbrella brands
  • Seasonal demand patterns requiring smart budget allocation
  • Building credibility in a new-to-them territory

strategy & integration

How Did We Do It?

Teaming up with BLUNT from December 2022, we created a cross-channel strategy across both PPC and Paid Social to help them achieve their goals:

Market Analysis
  • We conducted a thorough analysis of the UK umbrella market
  • We identified key competitors, consumer behaviour trends, and untapped market segments
  • We mapped out seasonal patterns and weather-related buying triggers
Weather-Triggered Campaigns
  • We built a reporting dashboard for monitoring rain forecasts across UK regions, and during periods of anticipated rainfall, increased ad spend and updated ad copy
  • This helped BLUNT to make the most of moments of high demand when consumers needed umbrellas most
Phased Brand Building
  • We used paid social to focus on building brand awareness throughout 2023
  • In 2024, we layered in direct sales activity once brand recognition had improved, creating a strong foundation before rolling out conversion-focused campaigns
Continuous Optimisation
  • We ran multiple A/B tests across ad creative, copy variations, and audience segments to identify the most effective messaging and targeting combinations
  • We refined campaigns based on performance data to maximise ROAS

results

This strategic, cross-channel approach successfully established BLUNT as a go-to umbrella retailer in a new territory, and created a springboard for continued growth:

2023 Results:

  • 186% YoY Revenue growth
  • Successful proof of concept for the brand in the UK market

2024 Results:

  • 24% YoY Revenue growth building on the previous year's success
  • Continued upward trajectory in a competitive market
